What A Scorcher!

Carne Asada is a traditional food that we as Latinos love to eat. So when my wife suggested we have some Carne Asada tacos for lunch on Saturday, there was no way I was going to say, "No". Again I might be bias but my wife makes the best Carne Asada Tacos ever!

The homemade Salsa that she makes to go with the tacos is fantastic also. It consists of diced Tomatoes, Avocados, Jalapenos and squeezed lemons. I tell you it's to die for! It was a scorching 95 degrees here in Phoenix when we started cooking. Of course this is considered "cool weather" in a state where the temperature can reach 120 degrees!

While I was in my backyard cooking on the B.B.Q. I remembered being at my grandmother's house and picking Mandarins from her tree. They were so juicy and sweet!

As you can imagine I worked up a major thirst being in the AZ heat. This gave me the perfect opportunity to try yet another delicious Jarritos! Naturally I chose Mandarin! What can I say, Jarritos has yet to disappoint me. The taste of the Mandarin flavored Jarritos was excellent! It really quenched my thirst and cooled me down! If it wasn't for the glass bottle I could've sworn I was eating one of my grandma's Mandarins.

Of course the tacos were awesome also! So if you are looking to quench your thirst and cool down this summer you have to try Jarritos Mandarin! We are America!

On March 10th 2010 150 people gathered at the Arizona State Capitol to deliver a message to Governor Jan Brewer. The message, "Enough is enough".  The AZ State Legislature was trying to pass an anti-immigration bill this week. (HB2632/SB1070) Thanks in part to the 150 people that showed up at the Capitol to denounce it it has, for now, been postponed to next week and some are saying that it may be postponed even further.

Border Action Network, a non-profit organization based in Tucson were the organizers of this event. In just one weekend they were able to collect 6,000 petitions from AZ residents urging Governor Jan Brewer to veto the bills being proposed by the State Legislature. In a time when AZ is in a huge budget crisis forcing the state to consider cutting education and to lay off hundreds of Police officers many, including Border Action believe that this will only cost the state millions that the state does not have to "train government employees, incarcerate and prosecute people who have committed administrative violations and defend against lawsuit payouts that are guaranteed to be filed against the state".

According to Border Action "The bill is an unfunded mandate. It applies a one-size-fits-all approach to law enforcement and local governance that takes local decision making, discretion and flexibility away from local agencies and officials". 

Border Action went inside the Capitol building to personally hand deliver the 6,000 petitions to Governor Jan Brewer. The proper steps were taken to request an appointment with the Governor. However she declined to see Border Action Representatives. Shame on you Governor Brewer for not taking the time to speak to your constituents! We'll be sure to remember that when we vote in the coming elections! 

Border Action has vowed to return on 3/17 with more supporters to again remind the Governor that this issue is not going away. The fight will continue!.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

1. As soon as you read this, print out this postcard, make copies of it and get all your friends and family to sign it.

2. Pull out your calendar and write "Going to Protest at Governor's office" on Wednesday, March 10th at 11:00am and "Bring all my friends and my 500 signed postcards."

3. Monday -Send an email or fax to your Representative telling them to VOTE NO on HB2632. Sign up to receive an email alert on Sunday so it's at the top of your inbox on Monday –it will take 30 seconds to send the email! Make sure they hear from you!

5. Wednesday –Go to the Rally at Governor Brewer's office at 1700 W. Washington St. in Phoenix to demand she VETO HB2632/SB1070. We will deliver the thousands of postcards, hear from the breadth of Arizona leaders who are opposed to this legislation and announce the next steps to challenge this law and its proponents. Here comes Microsoft!

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp's first store looks ready to open in an upscale Phoenix valley city in the next few days, as the software maker takes its first step in trying to match rival Apple Inc's successful venture into retail.
Expectations are running high that its first store, in the Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale, Arizona, will open next week, to coincide with the launch of Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system next Thursday.


The site is still boarded up, but a peek through an open door reveals lights and shelving all ready for customers and a large, flat-screen display running along the walls.


Microsoft has so far been coy about its retail plans and a company spokeswoman would not officially pin down an opening date beyond "the fall."


Chief executive Steve Ballmer teased reporters with an imminent opening on Friday, but also would not commit to a date.


"We'll open a couple of stores, try to improve, open a couple more stores," Ballmer said at a public appearance in downtown Boston.

"It's very important for us to have a direct connection with the user," said Ballmer, talking about the planned stores, which he said will be important for "showing the customer what you really can do."


Microsoft unveiled its plan to open stores in February, in emulation of Apple, hiring a former Wal-Mart Stores Inc executive to run them.


In July, Microsoft's chief operating officer said the company would open up stores "right next door" to Apple stores. The nearest Apple store to Scottsdale is several miles away in Phoenix.
